Happy New Year everyone, hope your Christmas was amazing! I think winter is here to stay finally, woke up to -9…
I’ve been a little MIA lately, that rush before the holidays always gets me. I do apologize, but I’ve been working on some exciting things for you all. I have been working on all new amazing freebies and paid e-books for more detailed information on a variety of topics. I’m sure you’ll love them! Just wanted to give you a little update. Now onto our regularly scheduled programming…
Since winter is here and I have come to the realization that having the proper cold weather work clothes is essential to my happiness, I want to share it with you too (so you too can be happy outside in the cold weather). Before this winter, I didn’t have the right stuff. Every time we had to do work outside and it was even slightly cold, I would hate it. My toes would go numb, I’d always have a chill, and my fingers didn’t work properly. So not only did it suck for me, but it also sucked for my husband when I was always complaining I was cold… poor guy.
After learning the hard way, I got my head screwed on correctly and bought some much need cold weather work clothes. Let me show you!
From the Bottom Up
Even though hats are super important, sometimes I would much rather have the feeling in my toes than a toque on. I would stay start with proper cold weather work boots. So just as an FYI even though I know Sorrels are work wear – they suck. I bought a pair last year for when we’re not on the farm and was super disappointed. This year I opted for Muck Boots, more specifically the Arctic Sport 2 Tall they are the absolute best thing because they have a comfort rating of -40!!! CAN IT GET BETTER? So not only are they toastyyyyyyy, they are also, tall and keep my legs warm, super comfy for work, and have good traction for walking through that mixture of snow and muck. Trust me, and buy them. Ive linked the womens and mens version below. And I’ve also put a pari of bogs, I’ve heard good things about them too but have never tried them out (they only got to -25… just saying).
Bibs & Jacket
Bibs were the best discovery for my cold weather work clothes. I’d seen farmers with them before and now I know why. Remember that chill I was talking about every time I went outside to work, well this is that problem solver. Some of my favourite things about bibs are the fact that you can wear whatever you want underneath them, they don’t get your ‘indoor pants’ dirty, they keep you extra warm, and they go all the way up your torse to lock in heat and lock out the mess. Jeeze, I feel like a paper towel commercial. I like these ones, they also have insulated ones but I’ve found these to be enough so far.
And as always, having a warm work jacket that is different from your everyday winter coat will make all the difference. Not only one that keeps you warm, like my Carhartt one, but one that is tough and you can get dirty, too. The art of layering is lovely, but we will get to that below.
Layers & Accessories
Another important thing to up your cold weather work clothes game is to ensure that you layer. My hubs got me a sherpa lined Carhartt hoodie that is perfect for under my jacket. But one of our new great discoveries is that of the heated hoodie. They are amazing!! It’s pretty much like having a personal heated blanket when doing chores. They don’t sell Milwaukee on Amazon, but you can get it at Home Depot. Other things to keep in mind are warm wool socks, cozy hats, and tough insulated work gloves.
That’s about all of my favourite work gear! I wanna know what you guys are wearing? Did I miss anything?
